On Thursday Town Councilwoman Karen Woodson told the Tourist Development Council that the fishing pier on Fort Myers Beach was the #1 tourist destination in all of Lee County. Woodson's pitch was for Lee County to build a much bigger replacement pier than it appears the county is planning to build now.

Retired Chief Judge Stephen McGuire has published his third political thriller called Secret Deceit. McGuire, whose been on Beach Talk Radio several times to discuss his fiction, will be signing books at The Alliance for the Arts on March 8th at 5PM.

District 18 Florida Senator Nick DiCeglie (Pinellas County) co-authored Senate Bill 280, along with District 19 Senator Debbie Mayfield (Brevard County). DiCeglie shared an op-ed piece he wrote about the vacation rental Bill and why he thinks it should be signed by the Governor.

It's called SB280 and some local elected officials believe the new Bill takes control regulating vacation rentals out of the hands of municipalities and puts it in the hands of the state. Vacation rentals are big business on Fort Myers Beach.

The crowd gathered behind the Pink Shell Thursday when a young manatee was spotted on the beach. Ranger Robert Howell (pictured here), who works for the Pink Shell, sprung into action. He called FWC and educated the crowd on what might have happened.

The Lee Board of County Commissioners voted Tuesday to approve a $14.5 million contract for the design, permitting and construction engineering to restore the Fort Myers Beach Water Reclamation Facility and enhance its capacity. The work begins in 2025.

On Monday, after three attempts, the Fort Myers Beach Town Council could not decide which of the five candidates who applied, should be appointed to the seat left vacant when Bill Veach quit the council at the end of 2023. The Council should now let the voters decide.

That's what Operations Manager Frankie Kropacek reported Monday. The town is working through the process of getting those structures taken down, one way or the other.

The Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife recently held their annual fundraiser, ‘WILD About CROW,’ and raised $1 million thanks to the generosity of the sold out crowd. Sanibel residents Bill and Laurie Harkey donated $750,000.
